There indeed is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi
Well this goes out to all the SRK fans out there. Guys, I saw Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi(first day first show). And before I go into the review, I tell you it is good. And Aditya Chopra has succeeded in his comeback movie.
Well the crew behind this movie apart from SRK and Aditya, includes newcomer Anushka Sharma, who is assured of a good future considering the work put in RNBDJ. And hats off to Salim-Suleiman, who have done a great job as far as music is concerned. The background is so sweet even when the movie tends to go platitude. The singers have done a splendid job as well. I'll come to that later.

Now, have you ever imagined that an inconspicuous and unobtrusive man might have an enthralling love story? Well, as they have cliched it - There indeed is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi. 'कल मैंने उसे देखा. और देखते ही मुझे लव हो गया.' - This is the first sentence that King Khan says in the movie. He had gone to one of his professor's daughter's wedding. Now SRK is Surender Sahni, a simple, ordinary, the trying-to-be-perfect guy. When he sees his prof's daughter, Taani(played by Anushka), he immediately falls for her. But it is her marriage. Now Taani is quite the opposite of Suri. She's charming, flamboyant and a smart girl who's very excited about the marriage. But terror strikes in the beginning itself, when the boy and his whole family are killed in an accident on their way to attend the marriage. Upon hearing the news, the father suffers a stroke and is nearing his death.
He calls upon his favourite student - Surender and requests him to marry his ill-fated daughter. He also makes his daughter agree to this. And he goes off for a heavenly visit. Now all this is a typical filmy happening. Unexpectedly Suri finds a partner in his routine life. But Suri is so well mannered that he addresses his 'biwi' as TaaniJi and gives her his bedroom and takes all his things to the store-room(as dirty and dusty as it can be) above. They sleep in different rooms(different floors) after their marriage.
Now Suri starts the next day as usual as if nothing has happened and Anushka was someone else. He gets ready to go to office and knocks on Anushka's room to tell good-bye and let her know about breakfast. Well you exactly cant call that a knock as it was a feeble touch on the door as if not wanting to disturb Anushka at all. When she doesn't open, he leaves a note for her on the dining table. And thinks about putting a rose over that. Now that's sweet considering that Suri's still new to the word - romance.
Slowly and steadily, they start talking to each other and he even takes her out for movies. But she admits to him that it is impossible for her to love again as all the love inside her has drained off.(boo hoo.. sob.. sob..)
Then she sees a poster about a dancing class 'Dancing Jodi' and asks permission from Suri to participate in that telling him she was jobless at house and dancing was her passion. As obedient as husbands should be, Suri gives her the green signal and the money.
Meantime Vinay Pathak adds gaiety to the movie. He is the best friend of Suri. So Suri comes and tells him about his life and how he is not having a romantic life. He asks Vinay to help him become a cheerful and loving husband and Vinay obliges by transforming his looks.
The new look Suri with tight fitting T-shirt, biker's chain and spiky hair goes off to Dancing Jodi to impress Taani.
But instead of getting surprised at his new look, Taani takes him for some different person. And he too feels for some reason that let her take him that way and introduces him as, Raj. And they end up getting paired for the Dancing Jodi competition(Well that was obvious). And after an initial dislike due to his 'flirty' nature, Taani is impressed by Raj and agrees to teach him dance and they become one among the top-10 for the competition. And finally Raj proposes to Taani.
This was Suri's idea. Just to know whom she loves - her husband or a stranger. And Taani is in a dilemma because her married life has been dour and dull where as the times she spent with Raj had been cheerful. She tells Raj about this and asks his advice as to what she can do. When Raj tells her to elope with him she agrees. Well, during all this, there are scenes which tend to make it very sentimental and also boring but I feel the background music was the key for the audience to remain addicted.
But the next day suddenly she realizes that it was Suri who had stood with her in times of despair.(How?? Err.. No questions in the story please!) When her marriage was destroyed, he was the one who accepted her. And when she asks God about who is the real lover, we see Suri walking towards her. She immediately tells Raj that she can't come with him, and that she for a moment was distracted by him but it was Suri who had actually loved her more.
And when Suri turns up for the Dancing Jodi finals instead of Raj, she understands everything that had happened and is even more impressed about Suri's trying hard to love her. Suri says - क्या रब मुझे माफ़ कर दोगे की मैंने मुझसे ज्यादा तुम्हें प्यार किया? And as anticipated, they end up as the best Jodi.

As I had told Salim-Suleiman have done a spectacular job with the music direction, with RoopKumar Rathod and the ever-sweet Shreya Ghosal's title track keeping the movie alive every moment. Sukhwinder Singh's 'Haule Haule' is already a big hit. And Jaideep Sahni's wonderful lyrics and the powerful Sunidhi Chauhan have produced a great dance learning song in 'Dance Pe Chance'. And its a treat for the eyes in the song 'Phir Milenge Chalthe Chalthe', when you get to see Kajol, Bipasha Basu, Lara Dutta, Preiti Zinda and Rani Mukherjee playing guest roles. And if once Shahrukh said - Kabhie Alvida Naa Kehna, this time around it is - 'Hum hein rahi pyaar ke, phir milenge chalthe chalthe.'
