One of the main drawbacks of a life in Trichy or rather of a college student's life in Trichy is that only tamil movies release here. An if at all other language movies are to be released, they will be dubbed in to tamil. How sad!! Recently they tried releasing hindi movies. Unfortunately, of all the movies, the naive people could get their hands only on movies like Raaz 2, Chandni Chowk to China and Yuvvraj. Though Raaz was good, the others were two of the biggest flops in Bollywood. Besides these hindi movies, other regional language movies don't even stand a chance of getting released in Trichy.
Hence our hunger to see a malayalam movie gets fulfilled only when we go home, which happens once in two months or something.
Then there came a time when two movies - 2 Harihar Nagar and Sagar alias Jackie - were released. Both are sequels to two old blockbuster malayalam movies. In Harihar Nagar was pure fun and comedy were as Irupatham Nootandu was an action thriller and also starring Mohanlal. We could not resist the temptation to see both the movies and hence after a brief discussion as to were to go, a gang of 8, set out to Palghat, the nearest town in Kerala from Trichy.
In the hope of watching an early morning show, we reached Palghat at around 6am in the morning. But as luck would have it, the show was only at 10. So we waited in the Town Railway Station, attending nature's calls and taking an incredible number of photos, in all possible poses. Anyway better than spending 4 hours doing nothing.
It happened so that both these movies were in adjacent theatres. We came to the theatre at around 8.30 in the hope of getting into the theatre early. But it would not open until 9.20 and so we waited there. As soon as it opened, there was a race to the ticket counter. Although a few of us had almost won it, we ended up in the counter for ordinary tickets though we had wanted balcony. Once into the theatre, balcony and our seats made little difference as the theatre was one of the worst I had ever been to. And our trip became almost a waste, when the movie 2 Harihar Nagar turned out to be far below expectations . Atleast none of us liked it and hence our seats were compromised for.
As soon as this got over, we went to the adjacent theatre for Sagar alias Jackie and even got balcony tickets. And within few minutes the show began. Lalettan's charisma, the movie's style and the ambience was spectacular and the movie turned out to be a memorable one. Malayalam movie had evolved by including more action scenes, thrillers and glamour. The last movie's shadows were erased and made our trip worthwhile.
Though going for a seven hour journey just to watch a couple of movies may sound insane and may mean a waste of money, we were forced to do it because of the situation. But I would say it was worth it. An innovative way to spend a weekend. Guys try it out. Its really fun.
